Healthy Behaviors

The Healthy Behaviors Task Force, chaired by Jim Roosen, is committed to teaching and assisting people to develop healthy behaviors.

Two needs were identified: proper nutrition and improved physical fitness.

They are presently working with the Wayne County Partnership for Children to address childhood obesity through a grant called Nap Sac. The grant focuses on nutrition and physical fitness for preschool aged children.

A group that is an "off spring" of this task force is the Stoney Creek Park Alliance. They are working to establish amenities at Stoney Creek Park on Ash Street. The Alliance members along with others from the community recently submitted the application to have Wayne County designated as a "Fit Community". A grant was also completed to sponsor an annual "Walk it out Goldsboro" event promoting healthy behaviors at Stoney Creek Park. The second annual event is scheduled for April 4, 2009 from 10am - 2pm.
